TECHNICAL DETAIL
Sound masking for speech privacy
Sound masking introduces a controlled background sound into a space to reduce the intelligibility of nearby conversations and improve acoustic privacy.
It is commonly used in open offices, private-office areas and other commercial workplaces where speech privacy is important.
Important: Sound masking is not soundproofing. It does not stop sound from travelling between spaces; it reduces how intelligible that sound is to nearby listeners.
